semantic web: elegant syllogisms or over-generalized gack?
I happen to know that some folks who subscribe to this blog's feed are interested in the Semantic Web. I wonder what they would think of Clay Shirky's thoughts in this article.
An ephemeral journal of Jason's sporadic thoughts.

I've heard about the semantic web every once in a while. Paul Ford is one fellow doing quite a lot of work in the area (he recently did Harpers). I guess I think that it's an interesting idea that will offer some interesting results but I think that it will ultimately fail because human knowledge rarely remains in specific categories adhering to specific rules. The semantic web might be a great idea for something like a science journal, though, in which knowledge attempts to be clean (though even with those journals folks spend a lot of time tidying up their categories and subject-keyword lists to match the march of new discoveries).
